The Essentials 1938

Artist of the year : Larry Clinton
Trumpeter, trombonist and clarinetist, Larry Clinton (Brooklyn (NY) 1909 – Tucson (AZ) 1985) became known in the late 20s for the quality of his arrangements. Tommy and Jimmy DorseyLouis Armstrong or even BunnyBerigan used fairly regularly his services. He decided however from 1937 to form his own band and started recording for Victor. He quickly pointed out a series of ambitious songs, adapting to swing style tunes borrowed to the classical musical legacy including Claude Debussy or Tchaikovsky.
Bea Wain

In 1938, he hired  vocalist Bea Wain who, due to her stage ease and sensualism, was to be part in the success of songs like My Reverie or Deep Purple,  both ranked at the top of sales.

Song of the year : My Reverie

The song is performed by young vocalist Peggy Mann. Simply magic!
